Emily Hayne

Emily Hayne is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management. She received her MA in Environmental Education at Goshen College and her BA in Environmental Studies from the College of Saint Benedict. Her research at Goshen College focused on transformative learning that occurs when education programs intentionally engage with landscapes and ecosystems. Her research at PSU considers the human and ecological dimensions of community health and wellness, specifically the impact of trauma on people and nature. Emily taught pre-K through 11th grade students in musical and environmental education settings, partnered with the U.S. Forest Service on recreation management projects, and facilitated sustainability garden and apiary workshops. She enjoys promoting environmental stewardship by connecting people to nature through outdoor recreation and reflection opportunities.
