José D. Fuentes conducts research, advising, and teaching in micrometeorology and biosphere–atmosphere interactions. He received his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Millersville University. He pursued graduate studies in Micrometeorology at the University of Guelph where he earned Master of Science (1987) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees. Following his Ph.D. studies, Fuentes joined Environment Canada. In 1995, he joined the faculty of the University of Virginia. In 2006, Fuentes received the State of Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award and the Hispanic Educator Award. From 2005 to 2007 he became the Cavaliers’ Distinguished Professor at the University of Virginia. In July 2009, he joined the faculty of the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University. Fuentes has occupied leadership positions with professional societies, serving as councilor and chair of the nominations committee of the American Meteorological Society and editor of national and international journals, including EOS of the American Geophysical Union.
