The Nature Conservancy
Director, Chesapeake Bay Program

As director of TNC’s Chesapeake Bay program, Mark coordinates efforts across six states and Washington, D.C., focusing on both policy and conservation projects to improve water quality, support abundant fisheries and enhance and restore critical habitats in North America’s largest estuary.

Through Mark’s leadership, the Bay program has contributed to the completion of the largest oyster restoration project in the world at Harris Creek, established alliances with agribusinesses to improve water quality and crop production, and worked to create a novel water management policy for the Susquehanna, the largest river on the east coast of the United States.

Mark’s first position with TNC was a summer internship in 1994. Since then, he has held a number positions that have helped conserve nature all over the world and in his own backyard.

Mark holds a Master of Environmental Studies degree from Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University.
