Combining operations research methods and economics to decision making under uncertainty applied to the field of energy and the environment, with a focus on publicly-funded energy technology Research and Development portfolios in the face of climate change. Other topics include evaluating the sustainability of the electricity grid in New England as well as in developing countries and evaluating the environmental costs and benefits of offshore wind energy.

Honors include: Armstrong Professional Development Professorship, 2017, College of Engineering 2016 Outstanding Senior Faculty Award, Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institute Participant 2015-2016, 2014 Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award, The 2009 Campbell Watkins Energy Journal Best Paper Award, NSF CAREER Award, 2008, IEOR Advisor of the Year, 2005, 2006, Runner-Up, Decision Analysis Society Student Award, INFORMS 2003, Food Research Institute Fellowship, Stanford, 1995-1998, Second Year Honors awarded to the most outstanding second-year mathematics student at U.C.
